Ordinances


To ensure the health, safety and welfare of Township residents, the Board of Supervisors has adopted various ordinances. Summaries of most common and frequently used ordinances follow. Full texts of these ordinances are available at the Municipal Building for view or purchase.

Animal Control

It is unlawful for any person to permit any dog or livestock owned by them or under their supervision or control to run at large. Dogs must be on a leash, under voice control, or under control of an electronic device when traveling the streets, alleys, or public grounds of the Township.
It is unlawful to allow any dog to make loud or harsh noise or disturbance that interferes with the peace, quite, rest or sleep of any person within the Township.
All areas in which dogs are kept must be maintained in a clean sanitary condition.

Curfew

It is unlawful for any person, 17 years of age or under, to be or remain in or about the street within the Township at night during the period beginning at 11:30 p.m. and ending at 6:00 a.m. with certain exceptions.

Zoning

The Township Zoning Ordinance regulates the zoning of land within South Londonderry Township. It also regulates permitted uses of land within specific development in those areas most conducive for growth. Permits are required for certain proposed activities.

Subdivision And Land Development

This ordinance, often referred to as SALDO, sets forth the regulations for proposed subdivisions and land development.

Building Codes

The Township has adopted codes setting the standard for construction of buildings, including framing, electrical and plumbing trades. The codes are often referred to as BOCA and CABO One and Two family dwelling. Permits are required for any new construction, and for remodeling or renovating existing structures. Inspections are made periodically of the construction underway. All building permits are issued by South Londonderry Township. Applications are available at the Municipal Building.

Brush, Grass And Weeds

It is unlawful for a property owner or tenant to allow any grass, weeds, or other vegetation which is not edible or planted for some useful or ornamental purpose to grow or remain upon such premises if it exceeds six inches in height, emits an y unpleasant or noxious odor, conceals any filthy deposit, or creates or produces pollen or airborne seed. This applies to property located within 400 feet of any habitable building or structure.

Junk or Inoperable Motor Vehicles

It is unlawful to allow junked, wrecked or inoperable motor vehicles or the dismantled parts thereof to remain on a premises, in public view, for an excess of ten days. There are few exceptions.

Snow and Ice Removal

The owner, occupant or tenant of a building fronting on a sidewalk shall remove any snow or ice buildup from the sidewalk within 24 hours of the accumulations. Snow or ice cannot be put upon Township streets or roadways.

Property Maintenance

The Township has adopted the BOCA Property Maintenance Code. It pertains mainly to existing structures and to existing premises. The Code establishes minimum requirements and standard for premises, structures, buildings, equipment, facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from elements, life safety, safety from fire and other hazards and for safe and sanitary maintenance.

Garbage And Recycling

Garbage collection within South Londonderry Township is on the free enterprise system. Property owners contract with any available approved hauler. For a list of haulers licensed by the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority (GLRA) contact the GLRA at 867-5700.
Recycling is mandatory within South Londonderry Township. Recyclable materials include aluminum, glass, steel and bimetallic cans, and newspapers. Your hauler must supply you with at least one recycling container.
